Nokia Corp., the world’s largest supplier of cellphones, plans to release its first handset featuring music subscription service in mid-October. The move will not only spur the interest towards Nokia mobile phones, but will also revolutionize the way people acquire music.
Nokia’s "Comes with Music" service allow owners of certain mobile phones to get music tracks from Universal, Sony BMG and Warner Music Group on a subscription base, which means that customers do not have to pay for every title downloaded. The world’s largest supplier of handsets plans to start selling phones featuring the service on the 17th of October, 2008, exclusively via Carphone retailer from the UK.
Nokia’s "Comes with Music" bundle of phone and music service will be available with British retailer Carphone Warehouse, reports Reuters news-agency. The package will differ from other bundles on the market as users can keep all the music they have downloaded during the 12 month subscription period.
It is unclear when "Comes with Music" phones hit other markets to challenge Apple’s iTunes music store, which charges $1/€1 per music track. Potentially, the new model can challenge Apple’s online music store’s dominance.
Nokia did not comment on the news-story.
